Here at Andertons Ribble Valley Butchers we favour using only our preferred cattle breeds for our “Ribble Reward” premium quality beef brand which our customers have grown to love. (Drew, 2007) This is a quick guide as to why these two historical and iconic breeds have won us over at Andertons; –
Aberdeen-Angus
The world’s finest beef breed, Aberdeen-Angus is a Scottish breed of cattle originating from the counties of Aberdeenshire and Angus. They are naturally black or red and polled, which means the breed are without horns in a species which are horned normally. The breed is of a great nature, and have an ‘easy to handle’, docile nature with unbeatable maternal attributes. All contributing to a life cycle without stress which increases the quality of the meat. This along with the good pelvic structure and excellent fleshing ability, truly makes this breed one of the best and wins a place on our ‘top shelf’.

Hereford
Like Aberdeen-Angus, the Hereford is one of the world’s premier beef breeds. One of the oldest British native breeds originating from the county of Herefordshire. Famous for their rich red coats and distinctive white faces. Again, they have a great temperament, love to eat, and live their lives in a way which endures very little stress. All adding to the exquisite flavour profile of the beef which is of high quality, tender and succulent leaving the consumer with a unique eating experience.
(Smith, 2008)
We truly do love both breeds, and therefore we can’t separate them at the top of our preferred breeds for our “Ribble Reward” Brand. Our “Ribble Reward” steaks are available in our two traditional butcher’s shops, from our premium catering selection and online via our online sales portal.
