With the next generation of young farmers consistently coming through the ranks, it is imperative that we as “meat men” not only work in partnership with what is realistically the beginning of the supply chain but it is also beneficial to educate the young farmers as to why it is important to look after and nurture their cattle. After all the first principle you need to be successful, is to fall in love with the job.
So we thought we would invite the next generation of young farmers down to our Ribble Valley cutting plant to, show them round and give them a demonstration. To really just educate them into what happens once their cattle is moved along the supply chain. Roger Anderton our Master Butcher on the night of the visit, put on numerous demonstrations of butchery skills and breaking down of meat carcasses. Whilst demonstrating which parts of the animal get turned into the more familiar cuts of meat, Roger and Max Roberts presented to the young farmers clips from AHDB’s Meat Education Programme along with points on how to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for the work in which we do.
Roger is also an ambassador of the Jamie Oliver foundation, to which he has took it upon himself to try and educate the whole populace, with a target of young people on how their food is produced. His role as an ambassador helps when it comes to demonstrations and guest speaking appearances which Roger devotes his time to at regular slots throughout the year.
Great British meat starts with Great British farming, animal welfare and husbandry is now very important to us and this is a reason in which British Beef is the envy of the world, and as much as we at Anderton’s would like to claim that statement for the work that our butchers put in, really it is the whole supply chain that is involved. This is proven with one of our most recent achievements, which was to win The Best Steak in the North West.
Quality of the meat without doubt down to the commitment, care and enthusiasm. And you wont find two different breeds of people who are as passionate about their job than Farmers and Butchers.
Lastly we at Anderton’s pride ourselves in buying off local farmers, not only does this mean we sell the best that our region has to offer, but also it reduces our carbon footprint and you can be sure that the meat you put on your dinner table has been cared for from start to finish!
Good job !!
